Chinese Proficiency Exams
We are an official test centre for Chinese language qualifications issued by Hanban (the Office of Chinese Language Council International; also the Confucius Institute Headquarters). These Chinese proficiency exams are international standardised tests recognised by universities and employers around the world.
HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test)
The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi – Chinese Proficiency Test) assesses your ability to use Chinese in your daily life, and in academic and professional situations.
The HSK has six levels, ranging from beginner (level 1) to advanced (level 6), which test your reading, listening, and writing.
Why take the HSK?
Track your progress
It’s very motivating to work your way through the levels as your Chinese improves.
Scholarships
Hanban offers scholarships for non-Chinese students to study in China, and a HSK certificate is required even if you have a Chinese degree. For full details visit the Hanban scholarships website.
Employment
Putting your HSK level on your CV is the best way to demonstrate your Chinese ability to potential employers, as it shows your level relative to an international standard.
Past papers
Chinese Proficiency Exams are issue by Hanban through Chinese Testing International. Download sample HSK exam papers for each level below. These are taken from the Chinese Testing International website, where you can find detailed information about the different exams, including the audio files for these papers.
BCT (Business Chinese Test)
The BCT assesses the candidate’s ability to use the Chinese language in real business or common working environments.
There are two levels available: BCT A (lower level) and BCT B (higher level).
If you are interested in taking a BCT exam please contact us to find out more.
YCT (Youth Chinese Test)
The Youth Chinese Test (YCT) is aimed specifically at young learners of Chinese.
We offer the written test, which has four levels: YCT I, II, III, and IV.
YCT exams take place by arrangement at local schools where Mandarin Chinese is taught.
Taking the YCT is a great way for our young learners to demonstrate their progress.
